The Charter of Povlja (Croatian: Povaljska listina) is a legal document written on December 1, 1250 in the town of Povlja. It is parchment copy of an ownership document from the cartulary of the Benedictine monastery of St. John the Baptist. Today it is kept in the Parish Office on island of Brač.
Most of the population is engaged in fishing, olive growing and wine-making what is the main reason why nature is preserved in its original form .
